David Allen Sedor

We are beyond sad to announce the passing of David Allen Sedor, 67 years young, at St. Joseph’s Hospice on December 21, 2025, with his family by his side.

David, who we knew as “Yo”, was born in Fort William the youngest child of George and Aline Sedor and grew up in Westfort, attending St Anne’s, Heath Park, Westgate and Confederation College. His early years were spent mostly outdoors, camping, fishing, biking, playing hockey or just playing. Our family loves the outdoors because of him.

One day in about 1980 he met the love of his life – he just did not know it yet. Once Ina saw him he really didn’t have a chance. Bound together by love, they built a life and a family together. Dave was a patient and loving father who had a knack for calming babies and a soft heart for any child or animal.

Hockey was an important part of Dave’s life. He had happy memories of his Midget and Junior hockey years, especially trips to St. Louis and to the Wrigley Canadian midget championship tournament, and later he continued to play for fun in city leagues. Once his children began to play he coached, even winning a few tournaments along the way. He enjoyed and was good at helping young players develop their skills and sense of good sportsmanship. He loved playing other games of skill, including snooker, golf and F1 racing sims, and watching any sport on TV.

Dave worked for many years as a chemical plant (SCMP) operator at Abitibi Mission mill and was not ready to retire when the mill closed. Until last summer when his illness forced him to stop he worked as a groundskeeper at Fort William Country Club, a job he enjoyed for the fresh air, the beauty of well-cut grass and the friends he made.

Always interested in how things work, he was our chief plumber, mechanic and electrician. He could fix almost anything, but not if it wasn’t broken or had “nothing wrong with it, Ina”. He was the chief animal trainer for our series of pets Scamp. Chester and Chico.

David was predeceased by his parents, his stepsister Evelyn Sylvester and his dear sister Barbara Siebert.

Dave is survived by spouse Ina Chomyshyn, children Kyra, Samantha (Derek Baker) and Zeke (Kassandra Fernandes), grandson David Nykyforchyn, brother Bill, sister Kathy Olson (Greg Churchill), nephews Alexander Siebert, Chad Olson, nieces Brandi Olson, Sarah Siebert,  other family, as well as the grandpuppies Crush and Charlie.

Thank you so much to home care nurses Connor and Stephen and to the A-list Hospice nurses, you made our difficult time easier to bear.

Join us to celebrate David’s life on Tuesday December 30, 2025 at 1:00pm at Everest Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James, with lunch to follow.

If desired, friends can honour Dave with a memorial donation to St. Joseph Care Group – Foundation to support the Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
