Mrs. Ida Barbara Chornoboy

Mrs. Ida Barbara Chornoboy, age 79, a long-time resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by family, on December 17, 2025. Barbara was born on November 24, 1946, in Fort William, Ontario, and was raised and educated in Murillo. Barbara was self-employed for many years as a child caretaker, a role she embraced wholeheartedly. She lovingly cared for countless children throughout her life, many of whom she affectionately referred to as her own. Her kindness, patience, and nurturing spirit left a lasting impression on the families she supported. An avid golfer for as long as anyone can remember, often found at the Emerald Greens Golf Course. We imagine her now joyfully reunited with Ronald in the heavens, walking the fairways together once again. Barbara was a devoted and active member of Wesley United Church, where she was a familiar and valued presence, particularly through her involvement with church groups and bazaars. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her sons Bobby (Melissa) and Daniel (Christine), grandsons Connor and Kallikrates. She is also survived by her sisters Evelyn Ahola and Rosemary Sim (Guy); sisters-in-law Helen Sim and Evelyn Sim; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Willie and Rhea Sim; her sister Edna Barcello (Armand); brothers Ross, Brian, and Sandy Sim; brother-in-law Tom Ahola; and her loving husband Ronald Chornoboy. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Esther and Bob Chanook and the McKee family, whose steadfast friendship and support; especially accompanying Barbara to appointments, meant so much to her. Sincere thanks are also extended to the compassionate staff of Unit 1A at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for the care, dignity, and kindness they provided. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all family members, friends, and her many condominium friends and neighbours for the love, kindness, and support shown during her life. A memorial celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on January 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at the Murillo Community Hall. Cremation has taken place. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Care would be greatly appreciated.
