We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Caroline Marie Brochu (nee Swanson), of Nipigon, Ontario at 89 years of age, on Friday, December 12, 2025 while surrounded by family. Her strength, love and caring nature will remain in our hearts forever. 

Caroline was born in Port Arthur to Marie and Oscar Swanson, and raised in Ouimet, Ontario. She was a book-keeper for Herm’s Trucking, a stay at home mom, then became a Red Cross Homemaker. She was Lioness Club President, as well as the Catholic Women’s League President. In her later years, she loved to visit the “old people” in Long Term Care.

If we were under the weather or looking for guidance, she was always there for us – never farther than a phone call away. She was quiet and reserved, but had a little bit of sass! Mom truly enjoyed her trips to Classicut for her weekly hairdo.

She is predeceased by her husband Hermen, daughter Joy Johnson, parents Marie and Oscar Swanson, brothers Karl and Gus Swanson, sisters Anna Larocque and June Copp, great-great-grandson in infancy Blaine Laframboise, brothers-in-law Bud Copp, Victor Larocque and Albert Monty.

She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children Anna (Brad) Guilbault, Bert Brochu; son-in-law Marven Johnson; her grandchildren, Jolene (Billy), Jennifer, Jocelyn (Tyler), Tristin, Mallory (Alex), Peter; Great-grandchildren, Karlie (Miguel), Drew, Dillon (Kayla), Jessica, Levi, Jordyn; Great-great-granddaughter Avery; Sisters Gladys Monty, Isabel (Ray) Goulet and Gloria (Fern) Marier along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family is grateful for NDMH doctors and nurses that cared for mom over the last 2 months. She was treated with the utmost care.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm at the Church of Annunciation in Nipigon.
