LRCA not in favour of merger

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority is opposing any merger into a larger jurisdiction.

The province is proposing to create the Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority.

The LRCA is put forward a resolution against the forced consolidation.

It says the new Conservation Authority is 1,500 miles from the Lakehead watershed and includes 72 municipalities, many of which are located in southern Ontario.

Instead, it is proposing a Northwestern Ontario Regional Conservation Authority, so the interests of this region are represented.
