William Thomas Torrance

October 25, 1932 – October 27, 2025

William Thomas Torrance, affectionately known as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Born on October 25, 1932, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Bill lived a life marked by dedication, service, and the joy of adventure, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Bill’s journey began in the historic city of Edinburgh, where he embraced the values of hard work and integrity. These principles guided him throughout his life and career. After completing his education at Police College, he began his career as a Police Constable in his hometown, serving his community with distinction. His sense of duty and justice eventually led him across the ocean to Toronto, Canada, where he continued his service in law enforcement. Bill’s innate investigative skills were later utilized as he became an investigator for a law firm and then for the Ontario Ombudsman Office, where he concluded his professional journey.

Beyond his professional life, Bill was a man of faith, living his Christian beliefs through actions.

Bill’s passions extended to the open seas and the courts, where he enjoyed sailing and tennis. His love for travel took him to many corners of the world, enriching his life with diverse experiences and cultures. Retirement brought him to the sunny shores of Sarasota, Florida, where he savoured the warm weather and the opportunity to indulge in his hobbies to the fullest.

He was a loving father to his sons, Neil and David, grandfather to Samantha, Breanne, Connor, Ciara, and Chelsey, and a proud great-grandfather to Cole and Isla Martin, Maeve, Aisling, and Merrin O’Neill. Although he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Inez, and his grandson Matthew, the memories they shared continue to bring comfort and smiles to the family.

In the words of the poet Robert Frost, “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Bill’s life was a testament to this simple truth, as he embraced change, weathered losses, and always looked forward to the new chapters ahead.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TBRHSF Northern Cancer Fund.

As we bid farewell to Bill, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey well-travelled, and a man well-loved. His spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. William Thomas Torrance’s story does not end here; it continues in the lives he touched, the love he gave, and the incredible example he set for all of us.

Rest in peace, dear Bill, until we meet again.
