June Bertha Munro

April 28, 1942 – October 26, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of June Bertha Munro, of Atikokan, Ontario, on October 26, 2025, at the age of 83. June was born on April 28, 1942 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia to Adeline and Finnley Bonneyman where she grew up with her six sisters and two brothers. She relocated to Atikokan in 1957 where she met her husband, Frederick Munro and married August 23, 1958.

In her earlier years, June worked at the Credit Union, Home Support, then later ran her own gift shop in Atikokan until her retirement.

A lover for travelling, June found joy in discovering new places and travelled as often as possible. She enjoyed many winters in Florida, trips back home to Nova Scotia, and never passed up an opportunity to go shopping or hit up the casino. Her adventures were matched only by her love for the comforts of home, where her legendary baking and homecooked meals brought family and friends together around the kitchen table. She always enjoyed baking special treats for her grandchildren and when she wasn’t in the kitchen cooking, she was enjoying looking at her cookbooks or cooking magazines for new recipes. More than anything, June loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she never missed a chance to celebrate their achievements, share stories, or simply be together.

June leaves behind her daughter, Dawn Munro (Perry); Son-in-law, Richard Wood; Grandchildren, Jared (Stacey) Wood, Cody Wood, Ryland and Kelly Briska (Alysha); Great-Grandchildren, Kolby, Kaden, Jaxon and Colton Wood; sister Pansy Hamel; brother Allen Bonnyman (Marg), long-time special friend Eunice Bang, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. She is predeceased and reunited with her husband Frederick Munro; Children, Irwin Munro, Kelly Munro and Brenda Wood; Parents, Adeline and Finley Bonnyman; and siblings Layton Stanley, Melvin, Mildred, Thelma, Vera, Harriet, and Shirley.

A celebration of June’s life will be held on Monday November 10, 2025 at Riverview United Church in Atikokan at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Atikokan Extended Care Wing in her memory.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the wonderful staff at the Atikokan General Hospital Extended Care Wing for their kindness, support and care shown to June during her 12 years there and a special thanks to Diane Williams, Diane Kaus, and many Home Support Staff for their friendly visits and unwavering support throughout the years.

May her memory be a blessing and her love continue to guide us all.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street, Thunder Bay.
