A trio of Supreme Court of Canada judges will be visiting Thunder Bay this month.
As part of a series of visits in conjunction with the Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary commemorations, Chief Justice Richard Wagner and Justices Malcolm Rowe and Michelle O’Bonsawin will stop in Thunder Bay on November 17 and 18.
The visits are intended to promote a better understanding of the Court’s role and function and reflect on how its decisions have shaped the country’s legal landscape.
Through various events and activities, the judges will meet with members of the legal and academic communities and engage with students, the public and the media.
Participants will have a chance to learn more about the Court and reflect on how its decisions have shaped our democracy.
The November 17 stop will include a welcome ceremony and public event at the Thunder Bay Courthouse as well as participate in an event with representatives from local courts and visit local secondary school students.
On November 18, the judges’ itinerary includes a visit to the Kinna-aweya Legal Clinic and talk with law students from Lakehead University.
Members of the Court previously visited Victoria, British Columbia in February, Moncton, New Brunswick in March, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in September, and Sherbrooke, Quebec in October.
