It was December ’24, when the Bank of Canada officially announced that TERRY FOX would be on the new $5 bill. He’ll replace Sir Wilfred Laurier. Terry was chosen from a short list of eight iconic Canadians! In the end, it was TERRY FOX as the clear winner.
The question is – when will we see the new $5 bill. The process of designing a new bank note takes a few years. There’s ‘research and development’ / ‘design’ and ‘production’. According to The Bank of Canada, the new $5 bill will enter circulation after the new $20 bill in early 2027.
We all know Terry’s story. Considered by many to be a true hero, campaigning to raise awareness and money for Cancer research by running his Marathon of Hope.
There’s already chatter of the new bill having a nickname: “The Terry Fox FIVER”!
