Local sports for Sunday, October 12th

The Fort Frances Lakers lost a pair of games over the weekend in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

The Lakers were shutout 2-0 Saturday night by the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.

That followed up on a 2-1 loss to the Ice Dogs Friday night in overtime.

The Red Lake Miners won their first game of the season on Saturday getting by the Ironwood Lumberjacks 5-4.

That came after a 4-2 loss to the Lumberjacks Friday night.

The only other game this weekend saw the Kam River Fighting Walleye get by their cross-town rivals, the Thunder Bay North Stars 3-2 in a shootout.

The Fort Frances Muskies remain undefeated after 6 weeks in the Winnipeg High School Football League.

The Muskies improved to 6-0 with a 27-21 victory over the John Taylor Pipers Friday.

Fort Frances closes the season against the second place Churchill Bulldogs next Saturday in Winnipeg.

The Bulldogs have a 5-1 record.

The Beaver Brae football team has its second win of the season in the WHSFL.

The Broncos dumped the Daniel Mac Maroons 61-1 on Thursday.

Beaver Brae wraps the regular season at home on Friday against the St. Norbert Celtics.

The Celtics handed the Dryden Eagles a 21-0 defeat.

The Eagles finish the regular season a home against the John Taylor Pipers, who Dryden is tied with for third place at 4-2.
