Province to expand in vitro fertilization services

More families in Ontario will have access to in vitro fertilization.

The Ford government is committing $250 million to expand or establish services in 25 clinics.

“This funding will support 25 clinics, including six new IVF clinics to shorten wait times and lists for fertility services in both hospital and community settings,” says Sylvia Jones, Minister of Health.

Fifty million will be released this year, which Jones says will allow for an additional 5,000 IVF cycles.

The remaining $200 million will be allocated over the next two years.

Health Minister Sylvia Jones says it will allow more families access to IVF.

“One in six couples in Ontario experience infertility at some point in their lives,” says Jones.

“This investment will expand clinic capacity and help triple the number of families across the province benefiting from publicly funded fertility supports, helping them to start and grow their families.”

With the expansion, IVF will be available at 54 clinics across the province.

The Ministry says since the launch of the Ontario fertility program, funding has supported more than 125,000 families.

The province also provides a credit of up to $5,000 to cover eligible fertility-related expenses up to $20,000.
