Daniel Balacko

Daniel Balacko passed away peacefully the evening of Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at his home in Pioneer Ridge with wife Lorna by his side. Born May 10, 1940 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Dan worked construction, several departments in the federal government, and a marine operator, spending time in the Northwest Territories. Finally with Industry Canada as Inspector for the electricity and gas division. Retired after 35 years. Volunteered with Search and Rescue as radio operator, FSNA Board of Directors, Pine Bay Fish Club, Shriners (50 year pin), Masons and Parkinson’s support group, making many friends along the way. Member of St Michael and All Angels Church. Masonic Lodges – Lakehead Lodge #709 as Worshipful Master. In 1981, Lakehead Shrine Club and Khartum Temple (Winnipeg) a lifetime member. Leaves wife Lorna, step-daughter Teresa (Ken), brother Ken (Christel), nieces Lisa (Larry), Linda (Peter), Laura (Cam), Natasha (David) and Robert (Katherine) and other relatives. Predeceased by mother Rose, father Dan, brother George and sister Joyce. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping at our cottage that we built in Upsala, travelling, cooking and entertaining. He definitely lived life his way and will be missed. Special thanks to Jasper Place and Pioneer Ridge for all the love and special care he received.

Cremation has taken place through Northwest Funeral Alternative. There will be a private interment at a later date. Memorial luncheon to be held at the Italian Hall on October 11, 2025 from 12-2 p.m. Donations would be appreciated for Parkinson’s, St. Michael and All Angels Church or a charity of your choice.
