Is there someone in your family that collects cards?  Sports cards, fantasy cards, Pokemon cards?  Check out what’s happening in a small town in Japan, called Kawara.  Kids are exchanging cards of the town’s real-life seniors and middle-aged men.

There’s retired firefighters, electricians, plumbers, volunteers,  chefs…and more!  The idea came from a local city councilor.  She was asked why?  She wanted to strengthen the connection between the children and older generations in the community.  Go ahead…and put them on trading cards.

The response has been huge!  Kids are going to local events, volunteering and doing what they can to actually meet the people on these cards.  One of the most popular, is a 70 year old retired prison officer, named Mr. Fujji.  His card is so popular….kids are lining up to get his autograph!  WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
