Federal government spending $5.2 million to combat climate change

The federal government, alongside the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, has announced that a total of $5.2 million is being sent to 70 municipalities across the country to support combating climate change.

The funding is aimed at helping communities with climate adaptation plans, climate-focused asset management strategies, and community-wide climate risk assessments.

The hope is that municipal governments will be able to shift from climate awareness to climate action.

“Municipalities across Canada are on the front lines of responding to the realities of climate change,” said the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Julie Dabrusin.

“Through smart investments, proactive planning, and strong collaboration, we can build a sustainable economy and create communities that are more resilient, vibrant, and prosperous for generations to come.”

Thunder Bay is receiving $104,000 to support the city’s Climate Adaptation Strategy Renewal.
