Canada Day Windstorm in the Bay: The Aftermath

Canada Day celebrations here in Thunder Bay certainly came with an unexpected, dramatic, and frankly, wild twist, especially if you were on the South Side!

While the Port Arthur side of the city saw its fair share of wind and rain for a bit, it was the Fort William area that truly bore the brunt of a severe thunderstorm that rolled through on our national holiday. Reports are coming in, and the word is chaos.

We’re talking trees uprooted and completely toppled, shingles ripped clean off roofs, and even sheds destroyed by the sheer force of the wind. It was a stark reminder of just how powerful nature can be, turning festive red-and-white into a scene of wind-whipped disruption.

Thankfully, amidst all the commotion and the significant property damage, there have been no reports of injuries, which is truly the most important thing. Our community is resilient, and while the cleanup will be a big task, we’re all grateful that everyone is safe.

Here’s hoping for clearer, calmer skies as we move past Canada Day’s unexpected natural fireworks display. Stay safe, TBay, and keep an eye out for your neighbours as we all work to clean up!
