Shelter House launches garage sale drive to help those in need

Shelter House is asking Thunder Bay residents to turn their yard sales into a way to give back.

The organization has launched “Declutter for a Cause,” a city-wide garage sale set for July 12.

People are encouraged to host their own garage sales and donate the proceeds to Shelter House, which supports individuals experiencing homelessness.

“It’s really just a good chance for people who maybe haven’t gotten involved or want to donate, and they don’t know how,” said Brendan Carlin, executive director of Shelter House.

Participants can sell gently used items such as clothing, toys, antiques and household goods.

Shelter House will also collect any unsold items and donate them through Community Clothing Assistance.

“We’ll work out a schedule to make sure we align with people’s availability and collect both the monetary proceeds and the leftover items,” Carlin said.

Registration is required, and a rain date is scheduled for the following week if needed.
