Thunder Bay looking for artist to design new award

Thunder Bay is looking for an artist or artists to design the new Arts and Heritage Awards for the city.

The awards celebrate local individuals, groups, and businesses involved with arts and heritage.

Award categories include music, film, stage performance, literature, visual arts, photography, heritage, cultural organizations, venues, events, volunteers, and supporters.

Artists and artist teams in the Thunder Bay and surrounding area are eligible to apply.

The city is looking for concepts for the design and creation of a three-dimensional award that will be presented to recipients.

The successful artist will commit to producing awards for two years, 2025 and 2026, for Thunder Bay Arts & Heritage Award ceremonies.

A maximum of sixteen awards will be given at each ceremony.

“The Thunder Bay Arts and Heritage Awards have been a key part of recognizing the leaders of Thunder Bay’s arts, culture and heritage scene for many years,” said Cultural Development and Public Art Coordinator Caitlyn McMillan. “As well as celebrating these achievements, we are supporting our incredible local talent to create this symbol of recognition.”

Arts and Heritage Awards were given out in Thunder Bay between 2003 and 2019, before COVID interrupted the event, which is returning this year.

The deadline for submissions is July 21 at noon.

The award gala is taking place on October 23 at Magnus Theatre.
