Thunder Bay’s second spring leaf and yard waste collection is set to take place.
Starting on Tuesday, residents will have yard waste collected on their next regular recycling day.
Only kraft paper bags will be accepted for disposing yard waste.
Bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores.
“Having two collections in the spring and two again in the fall allows the city to increase the amount of leaf and yard waste collected and diverted from the landfill,” said Manager of Solid Waste and Recycling Services, Jason Sherband. “Last fall, with the two collections, we saw a significant increase in the tonnage collected. That told the City that the second collection is a valuable service for residents.”
Residents may also leave branches and brush at the curb for collection.
Each filled bag must weigh less than 18 kg (40 lbs.).
Bundles of branches must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and 61 cm (24 inches) in diameter, tied with twine.
There is no limit on the number of bags and bundles for leaf and yard waste collection.
Residents must place the waste at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on their regular recycling days.
Grass clippings are not accepted during yard waste collection.
