Acadia Broadcasting has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help raise $45,468 for its upcoming Triplex Project.
99.9 The Bay and Country 105 hosted a 12-hour marathon on Wednesday, broadcasting from our studios and the Habitat for Humanity Restore.
At the store, a BBQ was run by Fox on the Run, and its owners, Ron and Lisa Lamarquand, with all proceeds going towards the fundraiser.
Oshki-Wenjack sponsored a fundraising power hour, contributing $3,000.
“Thank you to every donor, sponsor and volunteer who made our first-ever Habitat Home Drive a success,” said Habitat Board Chair Andrew Campbell.
“Your support is helping build more than homes — you’re building hope. Funds raised will go toward our first-ever triplex, breaking ground in 2026.”
The project is Habitat’s first triplex build in Thunder Bay. The homes are located at 830 Simpson Street, including one accessible unit and two, two-storey units.
All of the homes have two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms and a full basement.
They feature all-electric mechanical systems and are estimated to be 48 per cent more efficient than national energy code standards.
Applications for the homes are now open, and more information can be found by clicking here.
Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay provides a hand up, over a handout, helping lower-income families achieve homeownership.
Selected families do not have to make a down payment, and there is no interest on the mortgage payments.
Payments are geared to the income of the family, including property tax, and not exceeding 30 per cent of their income.
One of the requirements for families moving into a Habitat home is to complete 500 volunteer hours.
The organization has built more than 42 homes for the community in just over 30 years of operation.
