Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responds to 2 weekend fires

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was kept busy over the Victoria Day weekend.

On Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Fire Rescue received reports of smoke in a building on Park Avenue.

The fire started outside the building before it entered the walls of the structure.

Crews were able to put out the fire once they had identified a concealed area where the fire was intensifying.

Later that same day, crews responded to a fire on Fairbrooke Street just before 11:00 p.m.

The first crew on scene reported heavy smoke coming from a home.

Firefighters saw flames exiting from utility vents and the exterior wall on one side of the house, while visible flames were also seen through a basement window on the opposite side.

All occupants of the home had already safely evacuated.

The fire ultimately spread from the basement to the main floor and then to the second floor through concealed spaces within the interior walls.

The home sustained major smoke, fire and water damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
