Crossroads Centre set to move allowing space for more safe sobering beds

The Crossroads Centre is set to move to 667 Sibley Drive.

The centre supports people through addiction recovery, offering pre- and post-treatment care.

The new facility has been under construction since last December, with clients and staff giving insight into the planning process.

The relocation is part of a larger initiative to expand and enhance access to mental health and addictions services at St. Joseph’s Care Group.

The new site will continue to support the recovery of up to 20 people at a time.

“This site is limited to those 20 beds, just to ensure that we have space for cultural programming and community and connection with services, but we’re always looking at how do we meet the needs of individuals in our community and working with our partners to be able to do that,” explained the Director of Addiction Services, Nicole Spivak. “It will provide much more space in order to do that, and a space that’s accessible and all on one floor.”

By creating space at the 500 Oliver Road site, more safe sobering beds will be established to serve the community.

Eight additional beds are expected to open at some point this summer, once construction is complete.

The Oliver Road site will be focused on delivering safe sobering and withdrawal management services together with wraparound supports, including connection to treatment, mental health supports, traditional healing practices, and other social services.

The new facilities are seen as suitable for meeting the needs of the community.

“We always know that the need for services is high and continues to rise,” added Spivak. “We are really proud of our partners and our partnerships in the community to be able to come up with ways and create pathways to connect individuals to different levels of care when they need or to services based on where they’re at in their recovery journey having both withdrawl management and safe soldering beds located at Oliver Rd. also allows us to match the level of care to the individual based on their needs when they’re with us.”
