Thunder Bay Libraries and Age Friendly Thunder Bay partner to expand senior programming

A partnership between Thunder Bay Public Library and Age Friendly Thunder Bay is expanding activities for seniors in the city.

The organizations are launching a new seniors event series at the Library.

Seniors Coffee Chats will take place twice a month, rotating between the Mary JL Black and Waverly Libraries as host locations.

“We’re really excited to launch this partnership program,” said Programming Librarian Laura Prinselaar. “It speaks to the Library’s mission to help build a connected and healthy community and allows us to support meaningful social relationships for seniors.”

The program is available to local seniors aged 50 and older.

“Now, more than ever, seniors need opportunities to make new social connections and engage in new activities,” said the Chair of Age Friendly Thunder Bay Board, Donna Nagy. “This program will be offered in both the North and South sides of the city each month, making it very accessible for people who want to attend.”

She added that the program will support older adults to live actively, socially engaged, independent lives, and to feel included and valued in the community.

Attendees will be able to meet new people and participate in activities like crafts, learn about resources in the community, while enjoying refreshments.

The first Seniors’ Coffee Chats will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Mary JL Black Library and on May 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Waverley Library.

Drop-ins are welcome, and no registration is necessary.
