Thunder Bay residents awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal

Two Thunder Bay residents are being recognized for their work with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

CMHA was allotted King Charles III Coronation Medals to give out by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General.

Michael Lewkin, a past chair of the CMHA’s Thunder Bay Branch board of directors is being recognized for helping support the evolution of a community-based mental health service that focuses on the possibility and the hope of recovery.

He has served with the organization for 20 years and has served as president in Thunder Bay, while also spending six years as provincial director for CMHA’s Ontario division.

He has also served on the organization’s national board.

Sharon Ann Pitawanakwat served as the CEO of Thunder Bay’s CMHA branch for six years.

She is of Indigenous heritage and is currently serving as the vice chair of the national board, and director at large.

The Coronation Medal program was created to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.

It recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region, or community in Canada.

In total, the medal will be awarded to 30,000 people.
