No injuries reported in Thunder Bay East End fire

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue is reporting no injuries following a house fire in the city’s East end.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 11 a.m. Saturday where they found heavy smoke and flames at the rear of the house in the 600 block of McTavish Street.

A total of 6 pumper trucks, one aerial ladder truck and a command unit responded.

Crew worked to knock down much of the fire and bring the situation under control.

The home still suffered fire, smoke and water damage.

A search revealed no one inside at the time.

Homes on either side were checked for air quality.

One had to be evacuated while the fire department ventilated it to remove carbon monoxide that had migrated from the neighbouring fire.

Its occupants were able to return a short while later.

The cause of the fire was not released.
