Man charged after attempted robbery in Thunder Bay

A man is facing charges after allegedly trying to steal items from a Thunder Bay store, according to police.

Officers responded to a commercial address in the 100 block of Cumberland Street North on Wednesday afternoon.

In a news release on Thursday, police said they were told a man had entered the business and tried to conceal merchandise.

“When confronted by staff, the suspect attempted to leave. Staff were able to retrieve the stolen merchandise,” said the release.

“The suspect then brandished a knife towards staff members before leaving the store.”

An officer located an individual matching the suspect’s description and took him into custody.

A 41-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused appeared in court on Thursday and was remanded into custody.
