The Salvation Army says it has surpassed its goal in this year’s Christmas Kettle campaign.
A total of $327,615 has been raised, surpassing the $300,000 goal.
“We are thankful for the generosity of everyone in our community who helped to make the campaign a success,” the agency says in a release.
Funds collected ensure the continuance of services provided by the Salvation Army.
This includes a mobile meal program that feeds 50 to 240 people per night.
It will also help stock its food bank which distributes almost 400 hampers each month.
The Salvation Army also provides a school nutrition program to 135 students each day, emergency shelter for the homeless, transitional housing programming and other programs.
“This has been a difficult year for everyone. We are so grateful for the support we have received at the Kettles – we recognize that especially this year, it is a sacrifice for many to give, both financially and of their time,” states Gary Ferguson, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Community & Residential Services.
“We say thank you again, for helping us to continue our services in the community. Many people will benefit because of your selflessness.”
The agency says the campaign was supported by many volunteers, including its long-time ringers and new people who stepped forward to assist.
Several businesses also provided space to place the kettle or countertop stands.
Halfway Motors Nissan provided a vehicle, with Mastrangelo Fuels helping with fuel.
Tbaytel provided a phone for the campaign.
The Salvation Army says while its goal has been achieved, it is still accepting donations to the kettle campaign.
They can be dropped off or mailed to its office at 545 Cumberland St. North or by calling 807-345-6492 or online at www.journeytolifecentre.com.
Any donation received by midnight on December 31st or postmarked December 31st will be receipted in 2024.
