Thunder Bay’s “first big snowfall” of the season is coming. Maybe? Maybe not? Did you know…..

This morning, Environment Canada issued a “weather travel advisory” for Thunder Bay and area. Could get up to 10 cm of snow.

Some fun facts that came during last night’s City Council meeting / and this morning’s Council Round-Up with John Ongaro. File this under, “did you know”:

Thunder Bay winter operations centre is responsible for clearing almost 2,000 km of roads; almost 500 km of sidewalks.

After five centimetres of snowfall, plows are out. They start snow plowing at 2 am on priority routes. This is to ensure that they keep emergency and transit routes open. It takes about seven hours to clear these main routes. They also sand roads and sidewalks with sanding trucks and sidewalk plows that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Plus – did you know: The CITY collects road sand in the spring during street sweeping.
