Thunder Bay’s Firefighters Association launches 2024 Toys for Tots Campaign

Thunder Bay’s Toys for Tots campaign is back for another year of service.

The tradition has been running for over 70 years and this year they are welcoming new leadership.

Paul Penna, long-time campaign chair has officially passed the torch to firefighters Rob Wilson and Dylan Patterson who are serving as co-chairs.

“Over the years, Toys for Tots has played such a huge role in our community during the holiday season,” said Co-Chair Dylan Patterson. “Personally, I have watched my very own father be a part of it year after year, and I am honoured to continue on with that tradition.”

Outside of new leadership, there are a few other changes this year.

A donation station has been set up at the Intercity Shopping Centre, and another one is going to be set up at Goods & Co Market on December 11.

Firefighters are also returning to Boston Pizza on December 11th to serve meals during lunch and dinner, with all tips supporting the campaign.

The Kam River Fighting Walleye are also hosting a game to raise funds on December 14.

“We’ve seen firsthand how much this campaign means to families in our community,” says Toys for Tots Co-chair Rob Wilson. “This year, we’re taking things to the next level. As the campaign evolves and the need only continues to increase, this year Toys for Tots is announcing new community collaborations to help us reach an even greater audience.”

The launch event featured a cheque presentation from the local Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign which provided $48,419 to kick off the fundraiser.

Only cash donations are accepted, and the funds will be used to purchase the toys.

Donations can be made online here, at the pop-up locations, or at any TD Bank location.

Last year the initiative raised over $177,000, providing gifts to thousands of children.
