Loaded gun and drugs seized by provincial police in Thunder Bay

A provincial police investigation in Thunder Bay has led to the seizure of a loaded gun and suspected illegal drugs.

In August the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG) began an investigation into an increase in drug trafficking activity in the city.

On October 1, officers located and arrested a suspect in the investigation on Cumberland Street.

A search of the accused led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in their pocket. Police also seized roughly 85 grams of suspected fentanyl, 35 grams of suspected cocaine and roughly $4,000 in Canadian cash.

As a result, a 33-year-old Mississauga resident is facing several charges including:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused remains in custody with a court date on Friday.
