Thunder Bay’s heavy load restrictions have gone into effect.
The restriction goes into place to attempt to protect roads as snow melts. Melting snow ends up under the pavement as water and when it re-freezes and expands it increases the odds of potholes being formed when heavy loads drive on it.
The restrictions work alongside the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s Reduced Load Period which has also begun its rollout for the year.
The restrictions apply to all streets within city limits with some exempted streets.
