Robbie Bachman Dead At 69

Some more sad news in the music world today as we have learned that Robbie (born Robin) Bachman, the youngest brother of Randy Bachman passed away today at the age of 69. While out of the limelight for a number of years, Robbie was the original drummer for Randy’s first post-Guess Who band, Brave Belt, and stuck around after the band decided to make a name change (which happened here in Thunder Bay incidentally) to Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Robbie has also been credited with creating the BTO ‘Gear’ logo. Robbie was part of the band until the end of 1979 but opted not to return to the band when it initially reformed in 1984. He did, however, rejoin the band from 1988-1991 but retired from the band at that point. Unfortunately the band brought a number of rifts between Robbie and Randy, however it seems they had made up and put their differences aside when the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2014.

Robbie is survived by his wife Chrissy.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Bachman.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
