Local Athletes Off To Mississauga

A pair of Thunder Bay Queens players will skate in the 2022 Ontario Summer Games.

The team announced on their Facebook page on July 6th that Olivia Brassard and Mackenzie Kostiuk will make their way to Mississauga.

Coach Tammy Reynolds will also be apart of the event.

Brassard remembers being in tears when she saw the email sent to her Dad Jason.

“It was really surreal, there were so many emotions, I was proud and excited,” Brassard told Acadia News. “Thunder Bay was one of the first tryouts for this tournament, so we had months of waiting for the results. Finally hearing and knowing (what the results were), it was worth it.”

Brassard is following in the athletic footsteps of her parents as her mother Christina is a former volleyball athlete at the provincial games while her father Jason made in twice in Track and Field.

In baseball, coach Max Rydholm and Matthew Foulds will also make the trip south.

In Archery the Northwestern Zone Team will feature Haydin Dupuis, Anistasia Harmatiuk, Rylan Berlinquette and Cole McParland.

All four athletes have been practicing with the Lakehead Archers.

The games begin on Thursday, July 21.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
