Sports dome for $8.5 million………..instead of $45 million. YES, it’s possible.

Last week, we got word that the $22 million in Gov’t funding requested by the CITY for the new multi-turf facility was turned down. The price tag right now sits at about $45 million. The Mayor has said this is a ‘priority project’. They’ll have to go back to square one and review private contractor bids etc.

Over the weekend – North Bay, Ontario announced that Canadore College broke ground on their new 85,000 square foot dome “indoor sports facility”. It will be able to host soccer, basketball, tennis and even baseball year round. The city of North Bay has been working on this for about 10 years now, and it’s finally happening.

Price tag: $8.5 million. So, why can’t City Council / City Administration take some notes from this build and see what they can do? Do we really need to spend $45 million? NO. How about $8.5 million?

Our Sports Dome collapsed six years ago – and nothing has happened.
