UPDATE: Standalone By-law For Election Signs

Thunder Bay has one by-law to regulate signs for all elections.

Council voted unanimously Monday to adopt the by-law that includes provisions under the Provincial Offences Act which allows the City to charge the sign owner (or other person) with an offence where compliance cannot be achieved and also establish an out-of-court set-fine system.

The Sign By-law 135-1992 didn’t specifically address signage used in an election and the majority of the complaints that the city gets about signage is one that is placed on public property.

The new by-law will be in place for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election.

Election Day is Monday, October 24th.
