Province Wants To Temporarily Reduce Gas Tax

The Province of Ontario wants to temporarily reduce gas and fuel taxes.

Doug Ford and his cabinet has tabled legislation to reduce gas tax by 5.7 cents/litre and fuel tax reduced by 5.3 cents/litre for six months starting on July 1, 2022.

Since the start of the Russian/Ukrainian conflict, the cost of gas has gone up across the country. Notably in Northwestern Ontario gas has been hovering close to the $2/L mark with reductions only seen as of late.

As of April 1, 2022 the federal carbon tax was increased 11.05 cents/litre for gasoline and 13.41 cents/litre for diesel. The Ford government has called on the Feds to cut these these increases.
