Mauro Elects To Run For Mayor

Bill Mauro will seek another term as Mayor of Thunder Bay.

After hinting in December that he was weighing his political future, he’s decided to campaign for the October election instead of the June vote in Ontario.

Mauro served fifteen years as the member of provincial parliament for Thunder Bay-Atikokan, losing re-election in 2018 to Judith Monteith-Farrell.

“I did six years municipally before becoming a provincial member in 2003,” Mauro noted when asked about another run for Thunder Bay city council. “I think one of the advantages of being with the city is that you are not a member of a party or tied to party policy. There are times that (council) works collaboratively of course, but you are able to bring your own thoughts, ideas and opinions to the table. I think when people do that, it’s one of the best things about municipal politics.”

Candidates can file nomination papers on Monday, May 2nd with it closing on Friday, August 19th at 2:00 p.m.

Election Day will be on Monday, October 24th.
