“THANK YOU” Team McCarville!!!

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts ended last night in Thunder Bay at the Gardens. What a week!!! Canada’s best female curlers took to the ice to determine the best team in the country.

Team Northern Ontario, skipped by Thunder Bay’s Krista McCarville made it to Sunday’s final against Team Canada. In the end, Team Canada was able to hang onto their title and “threepeat”. Truly amazing story.

But, I wanted to take the time to thank Krista McCarville, and her team-mates: Kendra Lilly, Ashley Sippala, Sarah Potts, and alternate Jen Gates. AND, of course, coach Rick Lang. I, along with everyone in our city/region are so proud of what you have accomplished in the past 10 days. I can’t imagine the sting of losing in the finals, but you should be so proud. You are role models for young curlers and showed true sportsmanship. It was an entertaining 10 days. TSN did an amazing job, not only with the coverage of the event, but also ‘selling our city’ to all who watched across Canada.

To the organizing committee: thank you for everything you did behind the scenes to bring the Scotties to Thunder Bay. It was definitely under different circumstances. It was nice to see the few hundred volunteers / family and youth stars that were able to watch the finals.

I’m gonna miss the Scotties. I hope the committee / the City of Thunder Bay and Curling Canada can come to some sort of official agreement to allow our city to host the Scotties again soon in front of a packed house. (early news said 2024 or 2025). Let’s cross our fingers!

Until then: “HURRY HARD”.
