The restoration project for Chippewa Park is getting the backing of Ottawa.
Thunder Bay-Rainy River M-P Marcus Powlowski unveiled Wednesday $450,000, which will help erect an addition to the pavilion to house the restored C-W Parker Carousel.
This investment adds to an earlier commitment from the city of Thunder Bay to put $300,000 towards the project, which has an overall price tag of $1.6 million.
The carousel was originally built 1918-1920 and received heritage designation in 1991.
The Chippewa Park Carousel is one of three in the world that is still operational. The building will keep the ride safe from the elements and save time and money from having to dismantled and rebuilt each summer season.
