As you know, The Scotties Tournament of Hearts is in Thunder Bay until this Sunday. Every year, The Scotties hosts a one day telethon on the first Sunday of the tournament. That happened on January 30th.
It supports The Sandra Schmirler Foundation. Sandra was a Canadian curler who won 3 Scotties; 3 World Championships and a Gold at the Olympics. She passed away in 2000, at the age of 36 from Cancer. In her honour, the telethon supports the foundation, which goes to buying life-saving equipment for premature and critically ill babies.
Sunday’s “one-day telethon” was a record breaker. It raised over $770,000. If you donated….THANK YOU! Her legacy lives on through the babies that have been saved in her name through the foundation.
