UPDATE: Police Budget Reduction Decision Post-poned

Whether to move forward on a recommendation from the Thunder Bay Police Services Board (TBPSB) on the new police headquarters will be decided next week.

Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to send a motion back to the Board that was put forward by Mayor Bill Mauro to delay the $56 million debenture request until 2023 and instead ask for $2.4 million from Renew Thunder Bay to look at land purchase and preliminary design of the new facility.

Mayor Mauro and Chair Kristen Oliver told council that the Board would meet in the next couple of days to re-present the motions in a separate matter on Tuesday February 1st.

The Police Services Board approved asking City Council for the approximately $56 million build in April 2021.
