Pause Button Pushed For Superior League

Optimism that the season can resume for the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

That’s the sediment expressed to Acadia News from League Commissioner Darrin Nicholas following the province’s announcement Monday to close indoor sports and recreational fitness facilities as part of a revisit to Step 2 of the Roadmap To Reopen.

Nicholas said in an emailed statement, “I’m optimistic at this time that we’ll be able to resume, even if the pause is reasonably extended, given the amount of games we’ve already been able to get in, and the absence of any ‘cohort’ restrictions thus far that we had to deal with last year which required a 14-day pause between opponents and really hampered our ability to build any type of worthwhile schedule.”

Nicholas added the league should be able to pick up the schedule immediately when allowed to and perhaps even make up most or all of the games that were lost during the pause.

The current provincial measures are in place until at least Wednesday, January 26th.
