OPP Investigating Fatal Collision

Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, along with the Shebandowan Volunteer Fire Department, and Superior North Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17.

It happened near Ivar Road west of Shabaqua the afternoon of Dec. 21, 2021.

The collision was between an East bound commercial motor vehicle and a West bound passenger car. The driver of the commercial vehicle left with no injuries, but the driver of the other vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

The deceased is a 38-year-old female from Thunder Bay.

Police are reminding drivers to adjust their driving habits to suit weather conditions. This includes slowing down, adjusting distance between vehicles, or choosing not to drive at all.
