Fatal Crash On Highway 17

Members of Dryden Ontario Provincial Police responded to a collision involving two tractor trailers on Sunday morning.

It happened west of Dryden, police arriving to find that a vehicle heading east collided with another that was parked on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.

The driver of the eastbound tractor trailer, 31-year-old Alexie Plevak of Woodstock, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger and driver of the parked vehicle did not suffer any injures.

Highway 17 was closed from Dryden to Vermillion Bay for around nine hours while OPP investigated.

The Machin Volunteer Fire Department and Northwest Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded to this call.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
