It’s now a matter of voting on a new contract between the City of Thunder Bay and ATU Local 966 members.
The Union, which represents 150 transit members, has been without a contract since June 2020.
Talks between the two sides broke off in late September, which led to the union applying for a conciliator and voting in favour of strike action in October.
“I don’t think there was one breaking point (in the negotiations),” says President Fred Caputo. “With the conciliator, we started to really concentrate on certain things that we really wanted to see in our contract. It just seemed like the city started to listen, that was where the contract started to move forward towards the tentative deal.”
Acadia News did reach out to city officials for comment on this story, but as of publication no response.
Union members will gather on December 5th to look at the deal, and a 51 per cent vote in favour of the agreement needs to take place.
Should that happen, the deal will be returned to the city which will then go before council for ratification.
Members last had a contract with the city in June 2020.
