In the wake of a local outbreak, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Superior North EMS will be carrying out drive-through COVID-19 testing at St. Martin School.
It will be taking place tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. for any asymptomatic students or staff from the school who are considered unaffected, low-risk cohorts who have not been asked to isolate. At the time of the announcement, there have been a total of 10 COVID infections associated with the outbreak at St. Martin Elementary School.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille released this statement to the St. Martin Community:
“This precautionary measure is to allow the TBDHU to expand the investigation while protecting the school community and prevent further spread of the virus…This is a voluntary testing event and you are not obliged to participate. We do encourage you to get tested. Getting tested will assist with TBDHU’s investigation to detect any undetected spread of the virus as well as to support a safe return to in-person learning.”
Dr. DeMille’s full statement can be found here.
There is a testing booking portal, and anyone interested can visit this website.
