Truck Route By-Law Back On The Table

City Council is once again looking at the potential of bringing back the Designated Truck Route By-law.

At-Large Councillor Trevor Giertuga has a motion for Monday’s meeting asking for support to put staff to work on an update relating to re-introducing the idea.

Council previously defeated the by-law idea back in June of 2020, with McKellar Ward Councillor Brian Hamilton initially committing to file a Notice of Motion to Rescind, but pulled the item from the agenda.

The elected body did pass a resolution requesting information relating to procedure.

Those details were received in September 2020 in closed session from Legal Services.

The Designated Truck Route would direct heavy trucks onto Highway 11/17, and ban them from Dawson Road and Arthur Street.

If approved, city staff would report back on or before January 24, 2022.
