This Week on The Retro Lounge

Join me this Sunday night at 6 for The Retro Lounge on 99.9 The Bay. This week I’m playing originals or remakes of classic tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, with a few surprises thrown in. I’ve got originals like Michael Jackson‘s Smooth Criminal, with a great remake by alternative rockers Alien Ant Farm in 2001. They kept the video light-hearted with permission from Jackson, with a couple of pokes at the Moonwalk and the light-up blocks from Billie Jean, and the boy with cool moves with a mask on, that Michael first thought was making fun of his medical condition but eventually liked it.

I’ve got reggae classics redone by Eric Clapton of Bob Marley, UB40 and Blondie; Dobie Gray returns 30 years later with a remake of his remake; Toni Basil changes the gender and title of a song from a girl to a boy and takes it to number 1, and Tom Jones recreates a Prince classic with Art of Noise to revive his career; Aerosmith with Run DMC in a big remake of their classic; Hall and Oates gets a hit treatment from Paul Young; a remake from George Harrison you thought was an original; remakes by Motley Crue, Michael Bolton, Jimi Hendrix, two from April Wine, Nazareth redo the Everly Brothers and more.
The Retro Lounge is brought to you by Backstage, Thunder Bay’s newest music and accessory store at 215 Red River Road on 99.9 The Bay.
