A weight restriction on East Avenue.
Council voting Monday night in favour of going ahead with barring vehicles that are heavier that 10,000kg travelling down the street near the County Fair Mall.
Several elected members, including McIntyre Ward Councillor Albert Aiello, had heard complaints from residents that had to do with sir and noise pollution.
The restriction, which isn’t the first of it’s kind in Thunder Bay, would not apply to vehicles that have a specific delivery along the road.
City staff are also exploring by-law offences for transport trucks that are either going down the north side road or parking illegally on private lands.
According to spokesperson Doug Vincent, the rules would give the power to issue tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for offenders.
“Police officers can stop vehicles, we can ascertain the particulars and actually issue a by-law offence, if it’s warranted,” Vincent added.
Vincent told council the only alternative would be issuing a Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) offence.
Funding for sign installation would be drawn from the approved operating budget.
