Public School Board Waiting For PCR Tests

The Lakehead Public School Board is ready for when the COVID-19 tests arrive from Queen’s Park.

Superintendent of Education AJ Keene told Acadia News Friday that the province will provide the schools with 10 per cent of their population in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) self-collection kits.

It’s part of changes announced by Education Minister Stephen Lecce Thursday, which includes requiring unvaccinated teachers provide up to three negative COVID-19 per week.

“If there was a confirmed case, then the asymptomatic and vaccinated individuals would take home the test,” Keene added, when asked about their procedures. “We have used that in the one case that we had at Westgate and it was helpful. It certainly provided results in a timely manner.”

Lecce added the program will have a phased rollout beginning in the middle of November.
