City Getting Money Back In 2021

A budget surplus with the city.

During Monday night’s meeting, administration presented their quarterly review of revenues and expenditures and are projecting $5.6 million dollars will be left over for non-COVID-19 operations, which represents 2.1 per cent of the total net budget of $273 million.

In the report, there were a few reasons identified for the extra money:

  • $600,000 Thunder Bay Hydro Corporation
  • $500,000 Winter Control
  • $400,000 Vacancy Savings
  • $400,000 Court Services Revenues
  • $300,000 Infrastructure & Operations
  • $200,000 Thunder Bay Fire Rescue
  • $600,000 Thunder Bay Police Services
  • $500,000 Supplementary Taxes

In the 2021 Budget, the original amount that was approved by council was $7.2 million.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
