The Carpenters Union Local 1669 helping to start the Roots to Harvest fundraising campaign.
Union Co-ordinator Evan Reid presented a cheque for $150,000 to Erin Beagle, the Executive Director of the facility on Fort William Road, that will help purchase, renovate and create programs in the current location.
“From past support as well as projects the Carpenters have taken on to support Roots to Harvest, we have gained an understanding of the value Roots to Harvest brings to the Northwest region where our members live and work,” Reid said. “We can truly appreciate the work that is done by the Roots to Harvest team and we are looking forward to having our partnership build and grow in the years to come.”
The union represents Carpenters, Drywallers, Welders, Divers, Plie Drivers, Scaffolders, Floor Covering Installers and various other craft trades related to Carpentry throughout Ontario and Manitoba.
The donation and help of different levels of government has brought the campaign to more than 50% towards the $2 million goal.
“This is the largest single donation that Roots to Harvest has ever received and knowing that we have the support from the Union and members of Local 1669 means that we are well on our way to reaching our goal to provide the space and programs that will expand our services,” added Johnny de Bakker, Roots to Harvest board member.
Roots to Harvest continues to look for contributions from companies to support the development of the Community Food Centre for Thunder Bay.
